American Lady. Right, Kim?

About Marty Luster

I'm Marty Luster, a retired attorney and politician. In 2010 my wife, mother-in-law, dog and I relocated from Central NY to Gloucester. I hope my photographs and poetry(?) reflect my love for this place and her people. My picture-poem posts can be seen at http://matchedpairs.wordpress.com and selected black and white images can be found at http://slicesoflifeimages.wordpress.com

Hi Marty–Painted Lady–I answered you question with a post. Is this your new camera? Lovely!

    Definitely a painted lady.

Painted lady butterflies are wonderful for teachers & their students — to get as larva, watch them grow, see them spin their crysallids, then be lucky enough to see them emerge from the crysallids, & move their wings until they ‘pump’ blood into them & can fly.
My students always build the habitat for them; & when they emerge, we feed them sugar water on red carnations & orange slices (for a few days) — before we release them to freedom.
Sad they only live about 2 weeks — enough time to mate, lay eggs, & die. The joy they bring with their beauty & the miracle of metamorphosis is everlasting.
    Another of nature’s little miracles.
    Great pics! Thanks!
