Lighthouse in background

From Magnolia Harbor, believe the lighthouse in the background is in Marblehead.  Does anyone know if this is true?  Thanks all

June 18, 2012 I think the lighthouse in Marblehead

  1. Grew up with this view from my grandparent’s home on Shore Rd. As kids, we could see Marblehead Light on very clear days. However, it is a skeletal tower at the neck of the Harbor. The light seen in your photo could be Hospital Point, Beverly, or Ft. Pickering, Salem. Thanks for the memory, Donna.

  2. That would be Bakers Island light. Marblehead light, on the point of the neck, is just an old steel skeleton of a tower. Bakers is just south of Great Misery Island off Manchester. This is a great boating area, but caution is urged as there are so many rocks and ledges. GMG is a great blog-thank you!

  3. I think that lighthouse is on Baker’s Island, off of Beverly.
The Marblehead lighthouse is a black metal truss contraption.
Once you see it, you’ll remember it. Very different from a brick column tower.

  4. Not sure but it could be Baker’s Island, midway between Beverly and Salem and officially within the Salem city limits. I don’t think it’s Hospital Point.

  5. Not sure, but think it’s Baker’s Island, midway between Beverly and Salem in Beverly Harbor. Officially the island lies within the city limits of Salem. It’s privately owned (several cottages are there) and you’ll get kicked off if you try to land a boat there unless it’s an emergency. The Coast Guard maintains the light. The photo can’t be Hospital Point – it’s not visible from Magnolia, because Manchester juts out too far and gets in the way.
