It would hover like a hummingbird and a couple of times it dove into the water.

Kingfisher looking for small fish to pick off. Did he have kind of a screech like he had a sore throat?

I didn’t hear the screech because he was so far away (those shots are super cropped) but watching it hover like a hummingbird and then dive in the water had me searching the Audubon site for hummingbirds.
A belted kingfisher it is!

It might be the same one that likes to hang out over the little bridge by Stop & Shop – have seen it there a number of times. It must be looking for bigger fish!!

Belted king fisher. You will find them in quiet saltwater coves on Cape Ann. This year I saw one in February on Wheeler’s Pt. Have fun watching them!
