Vernal Pond Peepers 03/22/2012
We have a vernal pond in our backyard. At this time of year the place starts jumping; Frogs, Snakes, Minx, Otters, Mallards and their Ducklings,etc. are just some of things you can see and hear.
I filmed this video so you can hear how loud it gets here during a warm spring night. A couple of nights before I filmed this there was only one lone peeper looking for a date. Now there are thousands of them. You won’t see much in this video of me walking to the pond, but you’ll hear alot.

I drove through the Magnolia swamp/Ravenswood area on Weds evening and couldn’t believe how loud it was. At first I thought there was an emergency somewhere and it was sirens/alarms!

Peepers always signal spring to me. You can’t hear them everywhere, but where you can, they are deafening and wonderful. I’ve lived alot of places, and peepers have been a part of some of them, and I remember always and most fondly, the peepers. Lois Budrose

Wow, I love that sound. I noticed it for the first time this year just driving down 127 with my window open one evening. Hope they handled the return to cold weather last night!
