Wasn’t the former Boley’s automobile dealership, next to Cripple Cove playground and across East Main from the foot of Haskell Street, a bowling alley at one time? I’ll find out tomorrow. Ted Tysver will know!
wow – that must have been a very long time ago. The only other bowling alley I remember was (I think) on Chestnut St. Across the street from The Phone Company.
I remember the 4 lanes at the Willow Rest. You’d go through the store and up the stairs in the back (by the present day restrooms). We were often taken there for b-day parties when we were young (in the ’50′s).
The East Gloucester bowling alley was in the front building on the Wonson Wharf .Which was the next set of buildings East of Beacon Marine. My memory may be slipping but I remember six lanes.

Don’t forget the bowling alley at the Willow Rest….
The bowling alley was at the other end of the property were the small white building is now, The bowling alley was a long two or three story building with a center entrance. It burned down in the 1950′s. After the land was cleared the small white building known as Alexander’s fish market at that time was moved to site from the lot next to it.
I like the photo Kim; have enjoyed many good times on the deck to the far right on the photo. The view is fantastic from there. Thanks for posting.
Thank you everyone for writing. I imagine the view from the deck is fantastic–Smith’s Cove is gorgeous and scenic, no matter the time of day! I love the idea of combining venues that provide affordable fun for families and young people along the working waterfront, which would only create a greater sense of pride in our waterfront.
