Sunset on City Hall’s tower and flag

By Fr. Matthew Green

About Fr Matthew Green

Currently parochial vicar at Holy Family Parish, on Cape Ann (serving the churches of St. Ann, St. Joachim, and St. Anthony). I moved to the area in early August '11, and am very happy to be in such a welcoming community and beautiful location! One of my hobbies is photography. You can see my photos on Flickr and buy prints of some of them on Fine Art America. I am a daily contributor to GoodMorningGloucester (GMG for short), a blog by and about the community of Gloucester specifically and Cape Ann in general. The content is diverse, ranging from the beautiful and sublime to the earthy and occasionally offensive. I hope my contributions are of the former kind, not the latter. So, while I cannot endorse all the content that is posted there, I am grateful to Joey (the founder and admin of the blog) for giving me space to make my contribution. I also have my own blog, Perpetual Learner, which mostly includes my homilies and some re-posts from GMG, but also sometimes has other content, such as my personal reflections, videos I like, etc.

  1. E.J. says:

You gotta get some of these on Fine Art America!

  2. I worked at City Hall for twelve years. The Todd family was one of the last function before the City Hall closed for repair. I was also on stage in the Hall with Vincent Farrini , & John Ronan , of which we three wrote a poem for the re-opening. In all actuality the Mayor asked me to write a poem to read at the first meeting which I did , but now cannot find. The meeting turned out to be the meetings on Sewers

    Old Glory

Proudly we honor our Nation’s Flag
Its colors of Red White and Blue
To Americans it represents the freedom we have
And to be able to express our views
Crimson red is a symbol of blood that was shed
Through the battlefields in present and the past
Mixed with virgin white at the graves head
The memory of each soldier who died in time cast
How proud we are that our Nations Flag is flown
Through times of peace and the torments of war
To our children the true meaning of freedom shown
As Old Glory flies overhead and the eagle soars
We stand proud as we salute the flag of our Nation
As we retire the colors of its red white and blue
It is a reminder of our soldiers and their dedication
Who died fighting for Freedom and its justice too?
Freedom came from the Declaration of Independence
That we celebrate every Fourth of July
Through the wisdom of our Fore Fathers
That should never ever be denied

  3. I,m sorry did not write this good. The function we had was for our parents 47th. Wedding Anniversary. My dad Edward Todd had just got out of !CU at AGH , and I pressured my family to have it at City Hall rather than to wait for their 50th. There were over 300 guests mostly family with our mother& fathers best man and brides maid. It was just as well because both passed away a year later . Florence Rust Todd also used to tag team wrestle in the City Hall Chambers when she was yound and also she was once Miss Cape Ann.
