They really are delicious!
See now you can believe it to be true. It has the stamp of approval from the clergy.
So lets see if I can give you folks a little lookback. I sometimes mix things up , but I’ll try not to. The building is owned by Father Joe Mondello, who in relity has saved more SOLES, than any Priest at St. Anne’s. Sewed many wagging tongues than any Rabbi , and has ran into mre heels than Billy Graham.
From what I can remember the now Mamie’s was once Mondello’s Shoe Sales and Repair, with Harry Savage’s Barber Shop in later years. The building also held Carr’s Variety, although I am probably wrong on the name partially. I do know that Carr had the former Holy Cow location wit another name. My Aunt Millie Williams Putaansuu, at the time then later in years Garland, had it with my uncle Pete “Onni ” Putaansuu. He was the brother of my mother late mother Ida M. Putaansuu. It was years later after Aunt Millie was remarried to the Late Norm Garland that she was in the Mondello building , owning it twice, just as she was married to my Uncle Pete. It was called the Korner Kitchen . This is where I really get mixed up.
My Aunt Millie was originally a Williams. who was the daughter of Susan Keating, who with the family and her son Let Williams of Old Bray & Ferneld St , owned and operated The Station Lunch, which is since gone, but was the little house that used to be where Jim’s Donuts is now which used to be Auto Parts Plus, and also Hildonen’s Yellow Cab .also I believe Parson’s & Carr Studebaker, but I’ll bet I;m wrong on that too.
Lets see getting back to the Mondello building . It was besides Carr’s . it was run by Ron Texiera , and I believe Ginny Favazza, and family. It was also had Jack Bracleoni , and family , forgive my spelling. It was before the Mondell building that now stands , that Fr. Joe Mondello was located on the oppissit corner where the School playground is , in actuality more inward , because The First National Grocery was on the corner. It was Andrews Fruit on the other corner, which in later years became Andrews Lunchenette, so are you getting dizzy yet ? I am , so I’ll try to mix up your minds later. Message to Joe. I would love to tae a walk with you through my journey in time , but this last proceedure took a wallup at me. If people would just go to Capeannsalon.com , they would have a better understanding of me and my streets school of Gloucester.
