I started one this year and gave to my daughter for her birthday in November. Absolutely glorious. How did you time this so well for Christmas Day? The timing of amaryllis blooms always eludes me.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Yes, I will post again when in full bloom, and the amaryllis will be stunning I am sure! Carol–I started several pots of ‘Orange Sovereign’, both on the exact same day (around mid-November); one, as you can see, is readying itself to bloom, the other is only half-way there. Safety in numbers!! To speed the process up a bit, and if you are fortunate to have an old radiator, place the pot (and saucer) atop the radiator. When the stalk reaches about six inches you know the amaryllis is well on its way. Remove from the radiator and place in any desired spot. If near a window, remember to turn periodically or the stem will grow at an angle toward the sunlight.
