The stuff is hearty and grows quite a bit in a season.  They trimmed it like a hedge in front of the Bass Rocks Beach Club recently

Well, that’s … a start. Now, about the trash, and the sand and stones washed up by last fall’s storm, along with the now-matted piles of sea hay on the curb by the foot bridge. Not to mention other plant life taking root on the sidewalk all along the back shore. I think DPW makes a pass at this once during the summer season, but the trash generally gets picked up by individual volunteers (none of whom, I think, are the residents that actually live right across from the ocean). I just will never understand why Gloucesterites trash their own backyard (and it IS Gloucesterites); it’s a very strange thing.
