Washed Ashore

Washed ashore on Wingaersheek.
Question for Joey and the rest of the lobstermen out there…
Are the traps ever reclaimed? Is there a way to tell who the trap belongs too?

I have never seen that many at once on Wingaersheek. I usually see them On Bass Rocks up by the Ocean View Inn. You can find out who the trap belongs to by looking at the trap tags. These are the trap license. Those numbers have the trap # & owners name. You can call the Mass. Division of Marine Fisheries. Give them the number & they can track it.

Correction: You only call MA fisheries if there is a MA at the end of the tag. If there is an ME at the end of the tag you would call Maine Fisheries.

If the traps have orange rectangular tags they should have the name of the owner or the boat the fish on and sometimes the permit # or the phone # and then you can find them directly. Otherwise, as lobsterlady says, you can contact the Div. of Marine Fisheries with the permit number you find on the plastic tag(s) you find attached to the trap bridge.
