The proper name of a ship hauling coal is a “Collier”. I’ve shipped on a couple of ‘em

  2. Nick Kozma says:

This is m/v Harmen Oldendorff outbound from Salem Power Station. She is a self-unloading bulkcarrier. She was indeed carrying coal into Salem. I work for the operator of this fleet. Nice photo!

  3. Nick Kozma says:

She is a collier in this trade, but not exclusively trading coal (like all of our other vessels calling Salem Power Station). Passing Magnolia to port in the photo, she is on her way to Nova Scotia to load a granite cargo for Florida and the Bahamas. We have a ship into Salem about once per month, but Harmen O. is not a regular caller.

  4. SG says:

I understand. Bulkcarriers are capable of hauling many types of cargo. Grain is a biggie. Lots of work cleanning tanks, and getting ready for the next cargo espicially when changing over to a different cargo. Sounds like a good run. Got a job for me Nick?

Thanks! I wish I was in the position to hire people. I would hire all of my friends! Take care and keep an eye out for m/v CSL Argosy. She should be here Saturday morning or earlier. She just sailed Colombia this morning. If she goes to anchor first to wait for the tide, she will anchor right off Norman’s Woe.
