One Response to Re-Run Inside the Blynman Bridge Control House Part I

  1. Good info, did not know the courtesy was to let the river traffic go first. Is the signal the same for requesting an opening on all drawbridges? The Woods Hole drawbridge is two long, two short. Through the 70′s there was an old codger who ran the bridge and liked to play it by the book if he felt like it. He also liked to give us teenagers a hard time if he could. This bridge is a one leaf bridge with one tenth the tide change of the Blynman. Requesting into Eel Pond you pretty much pulled up to the bridge house and asked. But with six young kids he just ignored us. We didn’t signal and we had a busted horn. He did not lift the bridge until we did a chorus of HOOONK, HOOONK, honk honk.

The other fun part of that bridge was painting a good quote under the bridge after the bars closed. “Summer tourists, some are not”. Real witty stuff. We were trying to think of something really witty after the human horn honking incident but never came up with anything pithy.
