    I happened to visit the New England Sculpture service in Chelsea when Fitz HUGH Lane (note the correct name) was being cast. I learned that sculptures are often cast in pieces, and they are welded together to form the full form. I remember the coat tails and the arms lying on the floor, looking rather odd. Those Birkenstock sandals were there, too.
