Triggerfish At Captain Joe’s

Day before yesterday Aaron on The Lady Margaret brought in this Triggerfish.  In my 33 years down the dock and after handling a bajillion pounds of fish at our dock I’ve only seen a couple of these.  The wikipedia page on Triggerfish is pretty interesting.  It says they are normally found in warm coastal waters of the Atlantic, Mediterranean and the Indo-Pacific.  This one must have followed it’s way up the jet Gulf stream.

I think you mean “Gulf Stream” as opposed to “jet stream”. That is, unless the triggerfish is a flying fish!

  2. Nate says:

Was he alive when he came in? That would be a cool aquarium fish, or maybe The NE Aquarium could take it. I’ve heard that all kinds of tropical fish hang out at the ouflow to the Salem Power Plant and several others in the area.

Feel like I’m in the Caribbean! Sure is a pretty fish….

Joey, you’ve had some stellar blogs lately – congrats! Adore your early morning shots…

  5. Codger says:

Got one in my lobster trap last August, released alive of course.
You guessed it – near the Salem Power Plant.

One wicked good blog; keep it up!

  6. Damon says:

We had one at the Heritage aquarium a couple of years ago. As I remember the Midnight Sun caught it south of the Cape.

  7. John says:

They’re catching triggers with a lot of frequency on rods off the OBX. Becoming a popular food fish down there.

  9. I wonder what kind of triggerfish this is. This wikipedia entry says the gray triggerfish can be found from Nova Scotia to Argentina. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gray_Triggerfish
